Bio:

Ester discovered the mountains during teenage explorations in the Pyrenees, and this world has become her life. Longing to reach the summits she saw, Ester started first to climb the 3000m peaks of the Pyrenees and then the 4000m peaks of the Alps and Atlas. Summers were for rock-climbing (to a level of 7b+), and then in winter, captivated by the solitude of the snow caped mountains, Ester discovered the joys of ski-mountaineering. "Daring to dream" she was driven onwards and upwards, discovering high altitude alpinism with an expedition to Hidden Peak in the Karakorum in 1999. Since 2001 Ester has practiced her high altitude alpinism in a more active and professional way, making films about her explorations as part of the team "Al Filo de lo Impossible" for an adventure TV show.

In 2003 Ester's dreams were shattered with a tragic accident. Whilst descending a waterfall on Guadalupe Island her partner was killed and Ester suffered multiple fractures. Even as she was learning to live with the tragedy, after three months in hospital she was told by her doctors that she would never walk again. Ester's incredible strength and determination pulled her through a long hard year of rehabilitation. Against the odds, only one year after her accident Ester returned to her mountains, to the Himalaya, filming as part of an expedition to Manaslu (8163m). Her tenacity is an inspiration. But while her heart may be in the mountains, Ester cares deeply for the local peoples in the lands through which she travels. As an economist she is involved with a philanthropic co-operation project in the town of Hushe, northern Pakistan. This project, led by Sarabastall (Al Filo de lo Imposible) works with the local community on hygiene, health, education, agriculture and sustainable tourism issues.
