“Cat’s Meow” Synthetic Sleeping Bag
The redesigned Cat’s Meow sleeping bag from The North Face® garnered top awards this month from the respected German magazine Outdoor.
A market leader renowned for its in-depth coverage of hiking, trekking and adventure stories, Outdoor includes product tests and purchase advice in every issue. The publication’s Editor’s Choice Awards, however, are presented only once a year. Judged by a panel of well-informed, gear-savvy editors, the awards are given to the year’s “perfect products.” The number of awards varies from year-to-year, depending on how many products the editorial team feels are deserving, and is not fixed to a given number of categories. This year, the magazine granted awards to 13 products, including the Cat’s Meow sleeping bag.
The redesigned Men’s and Women’s Cat’s Meow is a synthetic, highly compressible sleeping bag for three-season adventure. The bag features an overlapping shingle construction for efficiency, filled with new Climashield™ Prism synthetic insulation for warmth, and is lined with a silken interior for softness and breathability. For temperature control, the bag sports an adjustable, synthetic-fill draft collar with a soft microfleece cord tunnel, as well as a head-level zipper garage with a welded, reinforced Velcro™ flap.
Outdoor was particularly impressed that although the redesigned bag weighs the same as the previous year’s model (a mere 1,200 grams for the Men’s regular length,) this year’s version tested at three degrees warmer, making it suitable for outdoor temperatures down to -4º C. Lauded the magazine, “[The Cat’s Meow] is the most efficient sleeping bag for tours during late spring through the beginning of autumn.”
