Team “F1 runners” finishes in top spot in The North Face 100® – the first official off road ultra marathon held in Singapore.Lexus Tan from team “F1 runners” the first to complete the race in a blistering time of 4 hours and 38 minutesSingapore, Saturday 4th October 08 - The North Face 100® – the first ever-official off-road ultra marathon was flagged off at the MacRitchie Reservoir earlier today. The race, which was run at different terrains in the central catchment area in Singapore, tested the endurance and mental strength of the most seasoned athletes. Different from other The North Face 100® races taken place, the Singapore stop took a team of two runners to complete 50km each. Teams with the fastest combined time were named winners. After some 4 hours and 38 minutes after the race got underway, Lexus Tan strolled home in blistering pace to finish the race in top spot. Lexus and teammate Kek Hong Leong from team “F1 runners” were the top team to finish the race in the men’s section. They clocked a combined time of 9 hours 50 minutes and 16 seconds. The winning team walked away with SG$3500 in apparel sponsorship from The North Face®. They will also represent team Singapore in the final leg of the four leg series in 2008-2009, which will be held in Beijing, China early next year. All expenses for their trip to Beijing will also be borne by The North Face®. “It was one of the toughest races I have ever participated in. The unpredictable terrain made it difficult for me to pace myself,” said Lexus Tan, the winner of The North Face 100®. “I think the only reason why I managed to do well is because of my strict training regime of completing close to 80 km in a week.” Yeo Kim Hong and Yap Boon Keng from team ”AIM” finished in second place in a time of 10 hours 1 minute and 42 seconds. Third spot went to Robson Phan and Yong Chun Seng from team “just 4 fun” in 10 hours 50 minutes and 48 seconds. Swiss runner Katja Fink was the first women to finish the race in 5 hours 31 minutes and 17 seconds but was not placed amongst the winners in this team event. The top honours in the women’s section went to Lesley Tan and Yong Lai Chee from team “Destroyers”. They completed the race in a combine time of 11 hours 10 minutes and 18 seconds. Team “Newbie” formed by Chung Shui Ping, product team member from The North Face® Asia regional office, and her partner Leung Kwan Ni Wiwin finished in second place in a time of 11 hours 41 minutes and 04 seconds.
