Stay active and run for health!

The North Face helps prime the pump in promoting a higher sporting spirit in Taiwan at the Chinese Taipei Olympic Day Run 2007.

The hot, humid dawn of June 24, 2007 saw over 1,600 enthusiastic runners gather at the Taipei Da-Chia Riverside Park, ready to take on the challenge in the Chinese Taipei Olympic Day Run 2007 – a citywide sports event held in promotion of the Olympic Movement.
In line with the purposes of the Olympic Games, the event is staged to reinforce the friendship and solidarity among athletes, and to help develop sports and promote health in the local community.
Held annually since 1988; the long-established sporting event has become the most recognized activity in celebrating the annual Olympic Day. As it is a pledge made by the Taiwan government and its National Olympic Committee (NOC) to encourage people to exercise more, the event has succeeded in attracting an average of 2,000 people to the meaningful act every year.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Olympic Day Run, the 2007 edition has enjoyed tremendous government support with President of the Taiwan NOC and many other distinguished guests officiated the opening ceremony.

A great proof that running is a healthy activity for all ages – the event played host to all walks of life in the city with the youngest participant at only 3 years old, while the eldest reaching the age of 92. While age is no barrier to doing exercise, the enthusiasm for sports shared by all runners was there for everyone to see – a spirit The North Face brand always holds dear.

What’s more, a charity element was also added to the event this year where funds were raised for the benefits of local charity organizations for disabled people. For every participant who completes the 8-km race, NT$80 was donated by the organizer to help the less privileged groups. Apart from the competitive running competition, several other programs were also held during the day, including a sign language workshop and an Olympic pop-quiz, to offer a wider variety of activities for the local people.

Sharing the belief that sports promotes better health, The North Face is ever keen in promoting outdoor sports in all parts of the world. As a proud sponsor of many sports events, The North Face endeavors to attract more people to sports and in turn, to experience the many benefits it brings about. The well-known sports brand was the propeller behind a number of large-scale events in Asia, including sponsoring a team of blind climbers in reaching the 4,000m summit of Taiwan’s Jade Mountain in the previous year.
